New technology is now available to quickly and accurately assess an individual’s risk of falling.  Through computerized dynamic posturography, we are now able in only 10 minutes to measure and quantify a person’s ability to maintain balance.

Those who have already fallen should be screened using this new technology, as well as, those who are concerned about their risk of falling. Others to be considered are those :

·       who have been observed to have an unstable gait or     walking difficulty

·       who have had an episode of dizziness in the past

·       who answered YES two or more times on the BEFORE THE FALL  Balance Questionnaire

Computerized dynamic posturography is a test of your ability to maintain your balance. You will be asked to stand quietly on a platform and either focus on a point in front of you or close your eyes. Your test responses will be automatically recorded on the computer for later review by the audiologist. The

procedure is completely painless and takes about 5 minutes to complete.  While you may experience minor feelings of dizziness or imbalance during the test, these symptoms provide your doctor with valuable information about your condition. The posturography screening will try to focus on assessing your vestibular system by eliminating the other two systems you use to help remain standing – visual and proprioceptive.

Through computerized dynamic posturography we are now able in only 5 minutes to measure and quantify a person’s ability to maintain balance and compare the score to others of the same age.
